Jag är forskare i språkteknologi och mina forskningsintressen ligger inom områdena Text Mining ibland kallas Text Data Mining eller Text Analytics (t.ex. informationsutvinning, relations- och händelseutvinning), korpuslingvistik, lexikalisk semantik och bygga och förädla språkliga resurser.Åren innan 2016 arbetade jag främst inom kulturarvsfältet (t.ex. med litterära texter), men även inom området medicinsk och hälsoinformatik med tonvikt på medicinsk språkbehandling och medicinska terminologier.
En stor del av min nuvarande forskning består av att använda state-of-the-art språkteknologiska metoder och verktyg för att kunna utveckla medel för att identifiera tidiga och subtila tecken på kognitiv nedsättning. Jag var PI för projektet "Språkliga och extra-lingvistiska parametrar för tidig upptäckt av kognitiv svikt" (2016-2021), vars syfte var att utveckla språkteknologiska metoder för att utvinna, kombinera, bearbeta, analysera och tolka olika former av skrift- och talspråk samt ögonrörelsemätningar under textläsning hos personer i olika stadier av kognitiv nedsättning och friska kontrollpersoner. Därmed ville vi kunna snabbt identifiera signifikanta språkliga (t.ex. ordval, felsägningar, fraseologiska, grammatiska eller semantiska avvikelser) och extra- och paralingvistiska signaler (t.ex. pausfrekvens, variationer i talrytm, talhastighet, tonfall och röststyrka) som kan användas som komplement till tidig diagnostik samt som prognostisk eller screeningsverktyg för att t.ex. kunna skilja personer med lindriga kognitiva symtom från "normalt åldrande" eller från personer som befinner sig i början av att utveckla hjärnsjukdomar som Alzheimers.

Sedan 2016 är jag (styrelse)medlem i AgeCap, Centrum för åldrande och hälsa, ett forskningscenter som utforskar äldres kapabilitet. Det leds av prof. Ingmar Skoog, institutionen för neurovetenskap och fysiologi. AgeCap är en del av Göteborgs universitets satsningar på globala utmaningar, s.k. UGOT challenges.
De senaste åren har jag organiserat fyra workshopar - workshoparna ingår i en serie som kallas "RaPID": RaPID1@LREC: 2016, RaPID2@LREC: 2018, RaPID3@LREC: 2020, RaPID4@LREC: 2022; och en s.k. special session (NEURAL2019@ExLing) medan för närvarande är i planeringsfasen för att organisera nya workshopar inom samma forskningsområde.
