The LINGUA project

The Lingua Parallel Concordancing Project began in 1993 and involves several European partners from Denmark, Greece, Italy, England and France.gif It is financed by the European Union (ndeg.\ 93-09/1245/F-VB). The project is gathering and managing a multilingual parallel corpus which aims at developing translation aids and language learning tools in order to ease students' and teachers' work in second language learning [Bonhomme and Romary1995]. At present the languages involved are English, French, German, Italian, Greek and Danish but the project is considering the addition of Spanish and Portugese. There are now five documents available in two or more languages. Another 15 documents, including novels and travel guides, will be added in the near future [Bonhomme1996]. The texts are aligned using an indoor alignment algorithm based on Dynamic Time Warping.gif
