Presentation
I am a postdoctoral researcher in natural language processing, working at the Language Bank at the University of Gothenburg. My research focuses on designing computer software that understands information in written text by analyzing the grammar of the text. Examples of such computer tools include:
- Tools to help people understand texts describing complex sequences of events, such as traffic accidents.
- Search tools for texts that express beliefs and opinions, such as reviews and political text.
Apart from the practical applications, there are also a number of theoretically interesting questions:
- There are several ways to describe the grammar and meaning of a text for computer processing. What effect does this have on language-based computer software?
- How do we measure the ability of a computer to analyze the grammar and meaning of a text?
- How can we make use of existing computer tools for one language to build tools that are able to process texts written in other languages?
